Getting The Readers Commitment

Filed Under (Blogging, Page Rank, SEO) by Zacky on 27-05-2008

readers.jpg The number one reason why I blog is to get readers attention about what I am doing and I guess that most other bloggers are doing the same too.

It’s the readers that I am writing for and not solely for search engine crawlers.

By also getting traffic to our site will not do any good if it’s just a traffic that comes and leave the next 2 seconds and never to come back again.

We need quality traffic. This is to say, we need visitors that will come to our site and actually stay there and read about what we write and what we have got to offer. We need to get them interested in what we are doing and that we have something to share with them.

Only when we have the interest of our readers and something that we can share with them, then they will stay longer on our site.

This will have an impact on your search engine ranking only by visitors staying longer on your site. It may sound funny but believe it or not, the mighty Google knows if your site is worth anything by just monitoring the visitor trend.

So if you are wandering why after doing everything that is said and taught by those SEO gurus and professors, you site still cannot be ranked high in search engine.

Try to look at it this way, it does not make a sense at all after you have built everything there is to know about SEO and applying it on your site but yet you are still no where to be found on the search engine and your page ranking is still where it is 6 months ago!

Truth About Search Engines

Filed Under (Blogging, SEO) by Zacky on 21-05-2008

SEO Getting rank high on search engine for the particular keyword you are targeting can definitely boost your traffic and sales. There’s no doubt about it if it is done correctly.

There a lot of factors that will influence your search engine results and there’s no guarantee that you will end up there. Most people have fallen into the idea that SEO companies can help then get the results that they want. As for me, all I can say is, if they can promise you that, take a hike and run as far away as possible.

Below are the few things that you need to factor in when implementing your search engine optimization strategy.

Rule #1: No Guarantee

Whatever you do, do not try to trick the search engine. Do not go into any black hat method just to get rank high for just a moment because it will get you ban forever. The rule is very simple. You must make your website or blog logical. All the content on your site or blog is primarily for visitors and not search engine crawlers.

There’s no guarantee to search engine ranking and there’s no shortcuts to search engine success.  There’s only hard work and playing by the rules in developing good relevant contents on your website  or blog .and the links to your website or blog

Rule #2: Write good relevant content

Believe it or not, your content is what that will determine whether site visitors stays and come again to visit your website. Great content brings repeat visits and increases the chance of conversion.

Even if your website site is technically perfect for search engine robots, it won’t do you any good unless you also fill it with great content. Keep adding relevant content to your site regularly.

Rule #3: Use search engine friendly and user friendly design

Keep your design neat and clean and avoid using long query URL. Use short and easy to remember URL. Do not over do your URL with keywords and more keywords. Just one will do that best describe your page.

Do not clutter all your content and links. Easy to navigate site will be appreciated by site visitors.

Rule #4: Get relevant links

Both reciprocal and one way links works for search engine success. Be prudent in your link exchange.

Good links improve your webpage’s equity on the search engine and bad links make a dent in your equity and credibility. Be selective in reciprocal linking. Only exchange links with relevant site or blog.

Getting relevant links from a higher page rank site will improve your search engine rank too. It ask as a vote of confident the site gave to your site and so search engine will see it as a good vote thus it will improve your search engine standing.

Rule #5: Getting visitors to stay on your site

This has always been overlooked by most site owners. If you want to rank high on the search engine, you must make your visitors to stay long on your site. It just does not make sense to Google if all your visitors just stay 3 seconds at your site!

This shows that your site doesn’t provide good relevant content to the readers and believe it or not, it will have an effect on your search engine standing.

So the idea is also to make your visitors to stay slightly longer at your site if you want to have a higher search engine ranking.

These are some of the important factors you need to take note when building up your site for search engine success. There are also other factors which I do not include here.

10 Considerations For a Perfect Link

Filed Under (Blogging, Page Rank, backlinks) by Zacky on 16-05-2008

thelinks.jpg Most of us by now know the importance and value of having a good backlinks to our blog or website. You were given the advice that you must attract links and you can find this everywhere on the internet, but the key is not just to attract links… they need to attract good links.

The quest for the perfect link can be frustrating and elusive, but the fact is: the perfect link is logical, appears natural, and grows over time.

So what is the perfect link? You should consider the following when attempting to attract or exchange links. These considerations are from my own testing and experience and observations. So feel free to comment at the end of the post.

1. Related to your blog or site

The best links should come from related websites which contain similar and related content but not the same type of material or content. For example: A link for Horse Racing would benefit from a link that discusses Horse Racing.

2. Anchor

The anchor text should include keywords that relate to the topic covered on the web page that is being linked to. Anchor text should be varied; links that all have the same anchor text will appear manipulated and contrived to the search engines. Therefore, the text links should contain a variety of related words.

3. Deep Link

The links should direct visitors to a related page within the website. Do not make the mistake of directing all of the web links to a website’s home page. Deep linking, and directing visitors to material that corresponds to content that is closely related to the text link is key. Deep linking appears more natural to search engines, whereas links directing all visitors to a single page or the home page seem unnatural, and could be interpreted as an effort to manipulate search engine ranking.

4. Page Authority

Page ranks from where the links are coming from do play a big part.

Search engines trust some websites more than others. Links from a higher page rank websites have more weight than links from lesser-known websites.

Google use PageRank as an indicator of authority.

5. Various sources

Links should come from a variety of sources. Fewer links from a larger number of websites will generally “weigh” more than a large number of links from a small number of websites.

6. Link Position

The location of the link on the page can also influence the value of the link. Some experts claim that footer links carry less value than links which are integrated into the actual web page content.

7. Number Of Outbound Links

A page with fewer links is better than a page with a large number of links. This is because a webpage passes along what is referred to as “link juice”. The more “link juice” passed along, the more valuable the link is. The link juice is divided up over all the links on a webpage, so popular websites with few outgoing links are more valuable than those with a large number of links.

8. One Way Links

Links that are not reciprocal carry more weight than those which are simply link-for-link exchanges.

9. Link Surges

Build your links over time rather than all at once. The gradual improvement is more natural and will have a stronger impact on organic search rankings.

10. Page Content

A web page that is mostly just a list of links has less value than a web page that contains a mixture of links and content. Search engine loves pages packed with quality contents.

Good luck in your attempt to find the perfect link and I hope you benefit from this post. If you like what you have just read, feel free to subscribe via email below.

Define Your Blog Objective

Filed Under (Blogging) by Zacky on 09-05-2008

Define your goals You’ve taken the time to finally build a blog, and now it is online. You get all excited about the whole thing. So what’s next?

Months go by. Maybe you get a few visitors now and again. Maybe you land on the search engines. Mostly though, it just sits there. Is the blog you paid for pulling its weight?

A blog is a tool and can be of significant help to promote you or your business. It can cut a lot of time you put into giving information to readers or customers. It can answer questions and perform tasks for you.

Most blogs fail to have a clear objective of what it is suppose to do.

Some blogs try to do way too much at once, or worse, they have no definable purpose. Many provide no clear objective. A blog can do more than look good and flashy and have your contact information.

Blogs can be informational, storing content and articles based on a topic. Blogs can run eCommerce solutions that help you with your sales process. It can also generate leads, asking customers to fill out forms with their information and interests. It can also be a hybrid blog, with mixed purposes, like offering a free ebook or free access to information in return for contact information (lead generation).

Defining the purpose of your blog gives a clear direction to your readers and customers. Where should your readers and customers arrive when they find your blog? Where do you want them to end up? Using a clear path and clear objectives, you can lead them through your blog. Maybe you prefer just getting to know your readers or customer a bit more, and being able to forward marketing materials, so a lead generation type of blog might be more suitable.

Assign a secondary objective. Maybe after visitors sign up for free access, or an ebook, they are encourage to ask more by contacting you. Use a clear call to action. “Email for more information.” “Clíck here to sign up.” Tell visitors where to go.

So setting up a clear objective for your blog is an important factor you need to consider if you don’t want your blog to just sit up there and looking flashy and pretty 6 months down the road.

Advantages of using Wordpress

Filed Under (Blogging) by Zacky on 07-05-2008

Wordpress Logo I posted recently about the blogging platform between Wordpress and Blogger. I am on Wordpress and I am not asking you to use Wordpress just because I am using it. So please don’t get me wrong. This is not about black balling Blogger or those already on Blogger.

Let me ask you a question. Do you have the “upper hand” with your blog?

If you’ve already using Wordpress to blog, then yes you do and I will tell you why.

1- Wordpress Is A CMS

Most people think that Wordpress is just another blogging platform or software. Try not to think of Wordpress as a “blogging” software, because then you’ll only be using it when you want to create a blog.

Wordpress is a simple but complete CMS or Content Management System which can be used for static sites, e-commerce sites, company sites and much more. You name it.

All you need to do is to find the right theme and you can get it free on the internet, and the right tips on how to turn it into a CMS.

2- Wordpress is Scaleable

It can support thousands of pages for your blog. Start with a few pages, and in a year move up to 15,000.

Wordpress can handle this easily and you can even add on more functions to improve the capabilities of Wordpress using plugins. You can also easily get all these Wordpress plugin free on the internet.

3- Wordpress is Open Source

Have you heard of the term “Open Source” and what it is?

You don’t have to pay anyone royalties or monthly fees, except for your hosting company and your domain name to run Wordpress.

I think sometimes people don’t realize the potential of “Open
Source”. Imagine McDonald sharing their recipe with you, and allowing
you to add and improve their basic product without a lot of restrictions. Isn’t it cool? How I wish you can see the potential here.

That’s the power of it! You can easily hire someone to modify your Wordpress blog and turn it into whatever you want. The potentials are unlimited and you do not have to pay anyone any royalty or other meaningless fees.

That’s the upper hand and the advantage for you for using Wordpress! By the way, I am talking about self hosted Wordpress and not the free Wordpress account at wordpress.com

I highly recommend (unless you’re blogging for fun) that you invest in a good domain name, get your own web hosting server and take control of your Wordpress blog. You can get a web hosting server for as little as $4.95 at Million Hosting. If you have not thought about this, then maybe now you should start thinking.

When you’re paying for your own server you can basically do anything you want with Wordpress, and you’re not subjected to someone else’s Terms of Service and limitations. You don’t even have to worry if tomorrow your blog account might get ban and brought down from the face of this earth. Never!

Common blogging mistakes most bloggers do

Filed Under (Blogging) by Zacky on 05-05-2008

bangheadhere.gif

Blogging? How hard can it be… after all it’s just an online journal, yeah?

Let me tell you how WRONG you are. Ask around and consult the pros and you will get the same answer smack right into your face. Blogging is not just an online journal unless you are just writing for only your mom to read, then maybe I am wrong to say that it is not easy.

Most people found blogging to be the ideal home business where you can balance your business and family life and maybe still have ample time at your own disposal. Well that’s what most people think and it’s not wrong to think that way.

Well just because most people think it is easy blogging doesn’t mean that you can go jumping into the idea without any plan.

After all, we are only human and like any other right minded human, we tend to make mistakes when doing something that is so easy and that is the same with blogging. I’m not sure why but I guess it’s just part and parcel of blogging when you are just starting out. So let’s try not to make these mistakes if you really want to be a professional blogger.

Common Mistake #1: Start with a plan and consult the pros if you want to be good in what you are doing.

You can be the best writer when you are in college or a journalist by profession or a English literature teacher in school, professional blogging isn’t “just” about writing. Like I mentioned earlier unless you are just writing for your mom to read, you can have it that way.

There are many other components to blogging that is equally important to the writing. You need to monetize it, you need to work on page rank and marketing. If you think it is just about journaling and writing (like most people think) than you are in the wrong business. The best part of it, , you also need to find readers.

Start with a business plan that smart people do even when they are opening up a small brick and mortar shop before jumping into your first blog. You need a clear road map about what you are doing. You don’t want to end like in the movies “Dumb and Dumber” where the dummies drove hundred of miles in the wrong direction! Only the dummies will know the pain of having to track back into the right direction.

Common Mistake #2: Blogging is like drug. It can be addictive. So just learn to say “NO”.

You can literally get hook to blogging and before you knew it, you are on your 8th blog! My god! That is fast but all with little or no quality content.

You started to ignore other things in life like your family and surrounding and the next thing you realize is that you need a rehab. You are practically glued to your blogs and not knowing what best to do with all of it.

Blog about something that you are passionate about and something that you know you can do it for a long time. Well, there’s nothing wrong with having few other blogs (like your other favorite things) but just try not to get carried away with others when your main blog is still nowhere near perfect.

Common mistake #3: Start with your own domain name if you are serious about blogging.

There’s no place like home and there’s no better place you can truly call home other than having your own domain name when you are blogging.

I have a friend and when he started blogging, he was like a cocaine addict, opening one account after another with Blogger. He was doing very well with one of his account but he lost basically everything when he moved to his own domain name 7 months later.

Again, it’s not about right or wrong and I hope you don’t get me wrong with this for those of you who are on Blogger. I know how user friendly the blog interface is with Blogger, but there is not a lot of room for growth.

You can’t move your Blogger account to your own domain hosted blog platform without losing all your precious links and page rank and readers.

There’s no right or wrong in blogging but it’s always good to learn from other people mistake as to save all the pain and trouble for not having to go through it.
