Do you spend time split testing?

Filed Under (Blogging, Email Marketing, Internet Marketing) by Zacky on 25-06-2008

Split testing Most people will ignore this but split testing on your headline, subject, email sent out, getting people to opt in are kind of important if you want to know what actually work.

So what do you actually need to test?

How many times have you heard “you should test to see what works best for you”? Probably too many to count, right? When it comes to internet marketing or making money online, testing separates the pros from the normal Joes.

So, to help you get started with split testing, here are some split tests you can run on your website to get and retain more subscribers, lower spam complaints, and increase response and even increase sales.

  • Create one headline without benefit and just features of your product and two weeks later, change the headline to include some benefits without feature of your product.

Track and see if your visitors tend to stay longer on your site to know they are actually read the whole sales page.

  • Create a general topic on your blog post without pumping in certain keyword and few days later create the same topic with certain keyword pumped in the subject line. But you have to change the order of your content or it will be seen as duplicated content by your readers and search engines.

Track and see if there’s more hits after submitting it to the normal bookmarking sites that you presently use.

  • Send one broadcast with personalization in the subject line, and one without.

Do subscribers respond to personalization, or do they see it as a “gimmick?”

  • Try using a different call to action on your signup form besides the old classic “Submit.”

Come up with 2-3 short phrases, create your forms and compare opt-in rates (a couple options: “Sign Me Up”, “Send Me _____”, “Keep Me Informed”). Keep whatever you’re using now too, and make it the “control” in your experiment.

Not everyone wants to submit to getting email from you. Find out what trigger they respond to.

  • For your next broadcast, add a permission reminder (”you’re receiving this email because you signed up at ____” etc) in the message. Compare your clickthrough rates, and your spam complaint rates.

Does reminding people why they’re receiving an email make them any more likely to recognize and trust you? Does it make them more likely to read through your email and/or click on links in it?

There are of course other things that you can test but the above is just the few which I usually test and to have a better understanding of what works and what’s not.

Building Credibility and Authority

Filed Under (Blogging, Internet Marketing) by Zacky on 16-06-2008

Building Credibility One of the most important factors to be successful online is when you have built your credibility and authority in the particular market you are targeting.

Depending on how you look at, building credibility and authority can be easy in some cases and can also be difficult in some cases too.

I came across a fellow marketer two weeks ago and was asking him how is his online business doing? He started doing business about 6 months ago and already started making some money here and there online. But lately he finally found out that it’s not as easy as it looks like to be making good money on the internet.

Well, that’s not how it supposed to turn out. Making money online is not that difficult if you have the correct way of doing it. There’s no right or wrong way when making money on the internet. It’s just a question of which is the more effective ways to make money online.

The easiest way to make big money online is when you have your own product to sell. Bundle it with some bonus plus membership and you are on the way to making money on the internet. But that too will have to be done correctly.

Many people fail to make money even with having 5 of their own products in the market!

I will explain one of the factors that can affect your success online and that is building credibility and authority.

I mentioned in my previous post the importance of building on what you are good at.

When building credibility and authority, it will be much easier if you know your product well. It will even be better if you are a “somebody” in that market. For example, a doctor in nutrition will be a “somebody” in a weight loss market, an ex bodybuilder will be a “somebody” in a bodybuilding market, a present Forex trader will be a “somebody” in an investment market, an ex soccer player will be a “somebody” in a soccer clinic market.

Rule #1 - People want to hear from the expert in the particular market that they are interested in and they want to buy from an expert in that market.

Most marketers are taught to go into a niche market even if you know nothing about that niche. Dig hard into some small niche and you will make money! And they are taught to write articles after articles in order to establish themselves as an expert. Well, I am not saying that is wrong. It’s a good way of building yourself but that will take you years to establish yourself as the expert.

Let me show an example about people’s interest.

John wakes up one day and for some reason, he is interested to build an aquarium. John wanted to start a fresh water fish aquarium. This is just interest that John picked up along the way.

Interest can stay in the person for long and also can be just for awhile and most of the time, these kind of interest will just stay in the person for awhile.

If you are having a fresh water fish aquarium product and are still busy writing articles to establish yourself as an expert, chances are John will no longer be interested in this interest. You have just missed the bus! And you are going to miss many more buses if you are slow in establishing your credibility and authority.

So to say, you have to quickly build credibility and authority in the market you are in if you want to be successful online and one way to achieve that is by building on something that you are good at.

Building on what you are good at

Filed Under (Blogging) by Zacky on 12-06-2008

blogging.JPG

Many people ask the question, how do you actually make money from blogging and since more and more people pick up the idea that blogging can make money, it now one of the hot topic everywhere. You can see or hear stories about how an 8 year old making money from blogging, a taxi driver now making money from blogging, a housewife with zero computer knowledge can still make money from blogging….and many more.

Well it’s true that we can make money from blogging but you also need to know that there’s a lot of hard work involved along the way. Money don’t just fall from the sky with you actually doing nothing.

So first thing first, when you decided to start blogging, it will be an ongoing thing. You don’t just set up a blog the first two weeks and leave it there on the web and expect money to start rolling in. if you think of doing that, I can assure you that it will just be collecting dust on the web (if you can actually see dust piling on the internet)

Blogging needs to be done constantly throughout. Well, I am not asking you to start writing or updating you blog every day! It just need to be constant, maybe every 3 to 5 days, you need to update your blog with fresh content. This way you can attract readers interested in what you are writing to come back again and again.

So what are you going to blog about? Topics on what you can actually blog is too big for me to list down. You can basically blog about everything from the fish in the sea to the stars on the outer space. But are you really going to blog about things that you are not familiar with? I will not do that even if I have all the time in the world, I will not blog about things that I am not familiar or good at.

The easiest and the best thing to blog is about things that you are familiar with or good at. Build your blog around things that you are good at. The internet community is so big there bound to be someone out there that shares your same interest. It might not be big but there will still be some.

Building your blog around things that you are familiar or good at can bring your blog a long way. For a simple reason, you can write topics and topics about something that you know and thing can actually bring your blog a long way. It just does not make any sense for anyone to start blogging about things that they don’t even know the head nor the tail even if the Gurus say that it is a very good and lucrative topic that people everywhere are looking for right now.

My advise is for those who are still wandering about what they should blog about, you just need to make sure that you choose something that you are familiar or good at and blog about it. You will get constant flow of readers who are interested or share the same interest about your topic easier than if you are going to attract blog about something that you are not familiar with. If you try to blog about something that you are not familiar with, it will not help much If you are trying to build authority and at most you can only attract search engine spiders to come to your blog but not real readers who are interested in your topic.

You can subscribe to blog below if you like what you are reading.

Tracking How Long Your Traffic Stays

Filed Under (Blogging, Traffic Generation) by Zacky on 06-06-2008

trafficjam.jpg Most of us know the importance of getting traffic to our website or blog but most people also overlooked the importance of tracking that traffic. Some don’t even know that it exists and yet getting all worked up about getting traffic to their website.

As much important traffic is to your website or blog, it is equally important for you to track that traffic that is coming to your website.

How long your traffic stays on your website is an indication of how good and interesting you have made your website or your blog.

It is always good to check the number of visitors coming to your site and how long they have stayed. How do you check this? You will check this by your log files. Most webhost do provide web statistic log in a form of either webalizer or awstats. I like and prefer to use awstats – just my personal preference.

This is done by your c-panel or a similar place depending on what your host has set up for you. Here you can view the different stats about your website.

They will show you:

* Monthly stats-how many visitors came to your site during one month. These will be divided into unique and general (repeat visitors).

* Weekly stats- how many visitors came in 1 week, again they will be divided into unique and general

* Daily stats

* Hourly stats 9 (I don’t care much about hourly stats)

* Number of minutes your visitors stay at your site

* Where the traffic is coming from or referred from

* Which search engine is sending you the most number of traffic

* What search term or keyword your visitors used to find your website or blog (Very Useful)

Most visited pages: These let you know how many visitors have come to certain pages during 1 month. This is where it gets interesting, as you will be able to tell which pages are attracting the most visitors.

The amount of time visitors have spent on your website: This is a good estimate of the quality of your site. Obviously the longer your visitors stay the more chances there are of them buying.

Once you know which pages are attracting visitors you can then work on getting all your pages sticky and compel surfers to visit them.

Google also tracks how long visitors are spending at your site. Again it is a quality check as far as they are concerned. When Googlebots bring information back to the Database about a website being visited and people are staying longer, they can naturally assume the standard of that website is high.

High standard and quality means Google customers (your visitors) are being serviced well and that makes Google happy. This will earn you a higher Page Rank (What most people overlooked when trying to get a higher pagerank)

So we can naturally assume that the longer your visitors stay the better it is. Now how to encourage them to stay? Have you ever read a book that you just could not put down? Well you website must have that same effect on your visitors. They will not want to leave until they have devoured every word of your pre selling content. They should be in the mood to either sign up to be in your opt-in list and become your leads or go on to your sales page and buy your products or services.

Making them stay: Make your site an irresistible, sticky website that draws your visitor in and compels them to stay. Here are some things that I can think of:

* Interesting informative content or even videos.

* Stories and breaking news about your industry. Be the first or among the first to write a ground breaking news in your industry.

* Quizzes relating to your industry-the answers will be found on one of your important pages

* Good user friendly navigation

* Humorous jokes, quotes and stories related to your industry-these are often shared among friends and associates (viral marketing).

* Free tips and tricks always work well in getting your visitors to stay longer.

Use all the resources you have and write that good informative content to pre sell your visitors. Provide them good products and services and see your visitors convert to your loyal customers because you have made your website irresistible to them.

How do you actually make money on the internet?

Filed Under (Affiliate Marketing, Blogging, Internet Marketing, branding) by Zacky on 02-06-2008

confused.jpg One of the most common questions that readers ask is “How do you actually make money on the internet?”

This question surface almost every where on the internet and while most have been answered by other marketers or bloggers, I will tell you honestly how can you make good money on the internet and I am not talking about $1 or $10 kind of money (if you get what I mean)

Then followed by “what are the best kinds of products to sell online?”

and sometimes…”which is best… selling products directly or promoting other people’s products as an affiliate?”

From my own experience, the answer to the question above is always “selling your own digital info products” because of a number of factors.

I will just list two of them and hope you can get a better idea from this.

1 - Low entry point (they cost little to create)

2) High demand (with the right product you can sell hundreds or even thousands of products very quickly)
