Advantages of using Wordpress
Filed Under (Blogging) by Zacky on 07-05-2008
I posted recently about the blogging platform between Wordpress and Blogger. I am on Wordpress and I am not asking you to use Wordpress just because I am using it. So please don’t get me wrong. This is not about black balling Blogger or those already on Blogger.
Let me ask you a question. Do you have the “upper hand” with your blog?
If you’ve already using Wordpress to blog, then yes you do and I will tell you why.
1- Wordpress Is A CMS
Most people think that Wordpress is just another blogging platform or software. Try not to think of Wordpress as a “blogging” software, because then you’ll only be using it when you want to create a blog.
Wordpress is a simple but complete CMS or Content Management System which can be used for static sites, e-commerce sites, company sites and much more. You name it.
All you need to do is to find the right theme and you can get it free on the internet, and the right tips on how to turn it into a CMS.
2- Wordpress is Scaleable
It can support thousands of pages for your blog. Start with a few pages, and in a year move up to 15,000.
Wordpress can handle this easily and you can even add on more functions to improve the capabilities of Wordpress using plugins. You can also easily get all these Wordpress plugin free on the internet.
3- Wordpress is Open Source
Have you heard of the term “Open Source” and what it is?
You don’t have to pay anyone royalties or monthly fees, except for your hosting company and your domain name to run Wordpress.
I think sometimes people don’t realize the potential of “Open
Source”. Imagine McDonald sharing their recipe with you, and allowing
you to add and improve their basic product without a lot of restrictions. Isn’t it cool? How I wish you can see the potential here.
That’s the power of it! You can easily hire someone to modify your Wordpress blog and turn it into whatever you want. The potentials are unlimited and you do not have to pay anyone any royalty or other meaningless fees.
That’s the upper hand and the advantage for you for using Wordpress! By the way, I am talking about self hosted Wordpress and not the free Wordpress account at wordpress.com
I highly recommend (unless you’re blogging for fun) that you invest in a good domain name, get your own web hosting server and take control of your Wordpress blog. You can get a web hosting server for as little as $4.95 at Million Hosting. If you have not thought about this, then maybe now you should start thinking.
When you’re paying for your own server you can basically do anything you want with Wordpress, and you’re not subjected to someone else’s Terms of Service and limitations. You don’t even have to worry if tomorrow your blog account might get ban and brought down from the face of this earth. Never!
