What’s the fuss about Page Ranking?

Filed Under (Blogging, Page Rank, SEO, Tools, advertising, backlinks) by Zacky on 25-03-2008

One thing that is getting people all talking now is about getting higher page rank. How to get a PR6 blog, how to get a higher page rank, how to bring up your page rank blah blah….

Just something for all of us to ponder - why would you want to get involve with something that is so uncertain, something that keeps on changing every 3 months or so?

I shared the same view about page ranking few months ago. I was so proud and thought that all my hard work had been paid off when one of my site was having a page rank 5. Well you know the feeling…hey! page rank 5 you know…..so what?

I was tweaking here and there and getting quality backlinks from some of the authority sites and VROOMMM….it went up to a page rank 5 after about 4 over months and there I was smiling all the way thinking that it can only get better. Getting rank high on search engines mean more sales and money will starting pouring in.

I was getting offers from other sites to pay for link inclusion on my sites which I accepted. Basically that was part of the whole idea of getting a high page rank - so you can sell some links and banners on your site yeah? Or am I doing something that is so illegal?

Then like all other sites that’s been experiencing the drop in page ranking, the same thing happen to my site. I went tumbling down like rain falling from the sky to all the way rock bottom - page rank 0! This is just great!

So after awhile I was thinking, why would one be bothered so much about something that is one sided plus something that is so uncertain? they are so uncertain about their algorithm that they need to change every couple of months.

SO I have decided not to be bothered by all this page rank game and just as long as traffic and sales are constant for my site, that what’s important.

Stick with something that does not change that frequently like affiliate marketing or viral marketing or whatever else is so much worth that getting all work up and then screwed for all your hard work.

Feel free to add if you have any experience about losing your page rank.  Share your stories with us.

The initial idea is good. But I see there are loopholes, and the rules set are not so welcoming. I have rest from all these. So, let’s get to the basic, content and blogging passion, and if and when the rank goes up, good. Else, we remain the blogger we are. Total cheers Zackharis. Thank you for this post. I benefited.

Hey Zubli,

Same thinking mate..forget about page ranking and just stick to the basic - content and blogging.

Cheers!
