WordPress or Blogspot?

Filed Under (Blogging, Make Money) by Zacky on 04-04-2008

WordPress and blogspot is the two main blog platform that many bloggers use. As for me, I am using wordpress. Not that I have anything against blogspot. It just that I feel there’s many limitation and disadvantage if you are a serious blogger and using blogspot. So what is your choice of using?

One of the reason that I choose wordpress against blogspot is the choice of templates available. With wordpress, you have the choice to maybe thousands of templates and there are support available from the wordpress community if you are having any problem with your template.

You can have a customized wordpress template for your blog and this is a definite plus if you are serious about blogging. Other bloggers will see you as a pro with a nicely done template you are using for your blog and tell you honestly, most bloggers when they come and visit your blog, they will first see the templates you are using before looking at your content. First impression counts and it counts too when you are blogging.

Blogspot don’t offer many choice in templates and this alone is enough for me not to even consider to use them. So when you are serious about blogging, this will be a big factor in choosing which platform to use.

Think about this, blogspot belongs to Google and your blog will have a URL of something like this – yourname.blogspot.com

How do you feel about using something that you thought is yours but it actually belongs to Goolge. You can’t do much with it and if one day your blog is so famous and is fetching a price you can only dream off, you can’t sell it because it does not belongs to you.

Using wordpress with a domain name that belongs to you is all yours for the taking. Do anything you want with it because it is yours.

So my point here is, don’t use blogspot if you are serious about blogging. Go for wordpress with your own domain name. It go a long way…

Let’s hear what you have to say about this. Feel free to leave your comment. It will be much appreciate.

You know what? I never realized my blogspot doesn’t belong to me. But if I move will it affect my pitiful traffic? It’s still my traffic though.

You’re right about blogspot templates.

Hi commentator,

You have to start haivng your own domain name and install wordpress as your blog platform.

I think you have to start migrating and directing traffic to your new site. might as well do it now rather than later as you will have more work to do later on when it gets more traffic.
