Blogging? How hard can it be… after all it’s just an online journal, yeah?

Let me tell you how WRONG you are. Ask around and consult the pros and you will get the same answer smack right into your face. Blogging is not just an online journal unless you are just writing for only your mom to read, then maybe I am wrong to say that it is not easy.

Most people found blogging to be the ideal home business where you can balance your business and family life and maybe still have ample time at your own disposal. Well that’s what most people think and it’s not wrong to think that way.

Well just because most people think it is easy blogging doesn’t mean that you can go jumping into the idea without any plan.

After all, we are only human and like any other right minded human, we tend to make mistakes when doing something that is so easy and that is the same with blogging. I’m not sure why but I guess it’s just part and parcel of blogging when you are just starting out. So let’s try not to make these mistakes if you really want to be a professional blogger.

Common Mistake #1: Start with a plan and consult the pros if you want to be good in what you are doing.

You can be the best writer when you are in college or a journalist by profession or a English literature teacher in school, professional blogging isn’t “just” about writing. Like I mentioned earlier unless you are just writing for your mom to read, you can have it that way.

There are many other components to blogging that is equally important to the writing. You need to monetize it, you need to work on page rank and marketing. If you think it is just about journaling and writing (like most people think) than you are in the wrong business. The best part of it, , you also need to find readers.

Start with a business plan that smart people do even when they are opening up a small brick and mortar shop before jumping into your first blog. You need a clear road map about what you are doing. You don’t want to end like in the movies “Dumb and Dumber” where the dummies drove hundred of miles in the wrong direction! Only the dummies will know the pain of having to track back into the right direction.

Common Mistake #2: Blogging is like drug. It can be addictive. So just learn to say “NO”.

You can literally get hook to blogging and before you knew it, you are on your 8th blog! My god! That is fast but all with little or no quality content.

You started to ignore other things in life like your family and surrounding and the next thing you realize is that you need a rehab. You are practically glued to your blogs and not knowing what best to do with all of it.

Blog about something that you are passionate about and something that you know you can do it for a long time. Well, there’s nothing wrong with having few other blogs (like your other favorite things) but just try not to get carried away with others when your main blog is still nowhere near perfect.

Common mistake #3: Start with your own domain name if you are serious about blogging.

There’s no place like home and there’s no better place you can truly call home other than having your own domain name when you are blogging.

I have a friend and when he started blogging, he was like a cocaine addict, opening one account after another with Blogger. He was doing very well with one of his account but he lost basically everything when he moved to his own domain name 7 months later.

Again, it’s not about right or wrong and I hope you don’t get me wrong with this for those of you who are on Blogger. I know how user friendly the blog interface is with Blogger, but there is not a lot of room for growth.

You can’t move your Blogger account to your own domain hosted blog platform without losing all your precious links and page rank and readers.

There’s no right or wrong in blogging but it’s always good to learn from other people mistake as to save all the pain and trouble for not having to go through it.

Some people take it as a hit and run business and some people see it as a long term profitable business on the internet.

Like any other professional marketers and business owner, I see it as a long term profitable business on the internet and I build it with only that purpose in mind.

With lots of information popping up on the internet about basically everything, you are given a lot of choices as to which is the best way you can take to build your online business. Just don’t get confuse with all these information and stick to the ones that works for you.

Besides knowing the things you should do to profit online, it’s equally important for you to know the things that can stop you from raking in the profit you truly deserved.

Below are 10 mistakes I have compiled that can kill your online business. It happens to most people sometimes without them realizing it. Are you one of those people?

If you are in anyone of the list below, take immediate action to change. It will help you in better building your online business.

1. I can do this for free. You cannot build a business online for free. Get over it.

2. Build it and they will come. You cannot just put a blog or website up, and expect to start raking in the profits.

3. “I don’t have to work hard to succeed online.” Well well well…How naïve can one be?.

4. “I already know what to do, I don’t need a game plan, plan is for newbies.” Even the president of the United States of America plan every tiny little things.

5. Not getting to the point. People have so many other distractions nowadays, you don’t have time to go into theory and all those mambo jumbo beat around the bush. Just get to the point.

6. Stopping at the first sale with a customer. Big error, this is only your first contact with a person who said “I trust you”…what are you going to do next? Isn’t it obvious?

7. Give them more reasons to show up again and again. It doesn’t stop at the first visit, what are you going to do to keep them coming back?

8. Don’t make them think. Getting your visitors the information they are seeking as quickly and easily as possible should be a primary objective. Shoot them straight.

9. Lack of focus on your business. There is more ways to make money on the internet than you could write a book on…but you need to pick one and focus on it until it develops profits consistently.

10. “I have 10 million hits and no sales…how is that possible?” Traffic isn’t the key, targeted (quality) traffic is. Get over this big hoohah about getting lots of traffic and focus on just getting targeted traffic.
